Three galleries tell the story of Winchester's past from the Iron Age to the present. Highlights include Roman mosaics, exquisite Anglo-Saxon jewellery, models of the Anglo-Saxon and medieval city, items owned by novelist Jane Austen and reconstructed Victorian/Edwardian High Street shops.
Free hands-on activities for families including dressing up clothes, Saxon coin brass rubbing, children’s tours and quizzes.

Sells locally produced Hampshire faire-trade products such as honey, cordials and chocolate, jams and chutneys, soap and lip balms. Museum guide books, Jane Austen books, old prints and maps, and souvenirs inspired by nostalgic advertising brands. Hampshire Cultural Trust Culture Cards are also on sale.
Level access from the street and an accessible toilet.
Guide dogs are welcome; large-print version of artefact interpretation available upon request.
