Biggin Hill Airport on A233
North of Biggin Hill village
Kent TN16 3EJ
During two World Wars, Biggin Hill airfield in Kent played a vital role in the air defence of Britain. Its fame is known worldwide and many visitors come to Biggin Hill to pay their respects to relatives who died while stationed at the airfield.
The St George’s RAF Chapel of Remembrance is a beautiful tribute to the 454 allied aircrew who died on operations. The simple red brick chapel is built on the site of the original station church which was built in 1943 using 3 wartime huts.
Unfortunately the first church burned down in 1946 but was replaced in 1951 with the present chapel. Everything in and around the chapel is a tribute to the Biggin Hill Sector aircrews.
