Dungeness on the English south-east coast is not only famous for its huge shingle promontory and unique wildlife habitats, but also for its Britannia pub.

The Britannia is situated in the heart of the hamlet, midway between the two Dungeness lighthouses and only a couple of minutes walk from the miniature Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway, Dungeness station.

The pub sits on the shingle bank, overlooking the sea, beside a wheelchair friendly boardwalk across the shingle to the beach.  It is a great place to slake your thirst and fill your empty tummy after a bracing walk either around the National Nature Reserve or along the beach.

Freshly cooked local seafood
The Britannia is renowned for its reasonably priced, freshly cooked local seafood.  It has a cosy bar/restaurant (with an open fire in winter), serving Shepherd beers and a choice of other restaurants to eat in.   There is a games room where local darts and pool teams compete.

Like most of the buildings at Dungeness, the pub is built to withstand the extremes of weather experienced in this exposed position.  On calm sunny days the conservatory restaurant doors are opened to provide an al fresco environment.  On blustery days they remain closed making a pleasant spot to sit and admire the view.

The Britannia is very popular with both locals and tourists but the restaurants can seat 100 guests and are used to dealing with large numbers of customers.

The Britannia is open all day throughout the summer months and lunchtimes and evenings during the winter.
