If you are in London and would you like to take the family for a ride on a heritage steam or diesel train, it is easier than you would expect.
Visit the Easy Way
Just take the London Underground Central Line train to that lines northern terminus station at Epping (Travel Zone 6) and from the front door of that station board the Heritage Railway’s number 339 vintage buses to North Weald and Ongar stations. Bus fare is included in the price of all EOR tickets.
The EORailway website states the “Epping Ongar Railway is situated just 3 minutes drive from Junction 7 of the M11, and 5 minutes from Junction 27 of the M25, making it the closest private railway to London, yet runs for 6.5 miles through unspoilt Essex countryside and forest, running between original 1865 stations.”
The EOR has a number of well maintained mainline diesel and steam locomotives plus period and modern carriages. The stations have been restored with accurate period colours, condition and atmosphere and are complete with open fires. As well as period signal boxes there are heritage London buses, both single and double deck.
