Gloucester Rugby Club
Gloucester GL1 3AX
Rugby Union football has been played in Gloucester since 1878 when an amateur club was formed. Gloucester Rugby Club is now a professional English rugby union team with an enthusiastic and loyal local following.
Although the team’s colours are now predominantly red and navy blue, the team is known affectionately as the ‘cherry and whites’ – a reference to their old cherry red and white horizontally striped jerseys. The Club plays in the domestic Guinness Premiership as well as the Anglo-Welsh EDF Energy Cup and the European Rugby Cup.
Gloucester Rugby's fiercest rivals are Bath and Bristol with matches between the three sides being referred to as West Country derbies.
The rugby season runs from September to April/May and visitors can check out fixtures and book tickets on the club’s website.
