The Perrygrove Railway tourist attraction near Coleford in the Forest of Dean combines the two things young children love most – trains to ride on and playgrounds built just for them.

The 15 inch (381 mm) gauge railway covers a distance of three-quarters of a mile (1.2 km) with four stations where passengers can alight to enjoy a variety of walks and activities.

A round trip takes 20 minutes, and the very cheap entrance ticket allows all day use of the train, hopping on and off as frequently as you like. Although the railway does run diesels, steam engines are used to pull almost all of the trains. Please call Tel: 01594-834 991 if you want to check what engines are running on the day of your visit.

The Route
The steam trains wind their way along a ¾ mile (1.2 km) track through farmland and woods. At each station paths lead into the ancient Perrygrove Wood on the edge of the Forest of Dean.

Most passengers break their trip to visit the picnic and covered play areas at Foxy Hollow. Other popular haunts are the fully accessible and safe tree houses at Treetop Adventure and the Indoor Village with its secret passages.

Treasure Hunt
For a small additional fee there is even a Treasure Hunt. Armed with a key, a treasure map of clues and a whole day of fun ahead, visitors can explore the whole of Perrygrove on the train to hunt for clues, then return to the Indoor Village, to unlock the box of treasure!

Picnic Areas
Both open air and covered picnic areas can be found at Foxy Hollow.

Perrygrove Cafe & Shop
The Cafe and Shop can be found at Perrygrove Station. The cafe serves hot and cold drinks, bowls of soup and freshly made sandwiches.
