Turf Hotel Exeter
Devon EX6 8EE

The Turf pub is at the junction where The Exeter Ship Canal enters the River Exe Estuary. The estuary and surrounding wetlands have been designated areas of outstanding natural beauty.

The Turf is extremely popular, particularly during the summer months. It is one of the few pubs in the country that cannot be accessed by car.
Walking, cycling and by boat are the means employed. There are also 2 ferries from Topsham and one that operates along the Exeter Ship Canal from Double Locks.
The Turf was built in 1827 to provide accommodation for the Lock Keeper and crews manning the sailing ships waiting to enter the canal. The environment has changed little since those days. The current owners have run this friendly pub for 19 years.
There is a children’s play area and an enormous beer garden bordered by the Exe Estuary on one side and Turf Locks on the other.
