The Royal Welsh Regiment is an amalgamation of a number of historic regiments with over 300 years of glorious history. The courageous feats of these regiments are recounted in the Cardiff Castle Museum of the Welsh Soldier in a fabulous new Exhibit called ‘Firing Line’.
The Exhibition recalls the history of the Royal Welsh and the 1st The Queen’s Dragoon Guards. It starts with the 18th century infantrymen from South Wales involved in the American War of Independence and details regimental service right up to modern involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan.
On display are historic uniforms, infantry weapons, coins, medals including several Victoria Crosses, paintings, and interactive exhibits of significant campaigns and battles. Find out about the part played by Welsh troops in the Battle of Waterloo (1815) and in the battle against the Zulus at Rorke’s Drift (1879).
All in all, ‘Firing Line’ is a fine tribute to the Welsh Soldier and well worth visiting.
