The Brecon Beacons Mountain Centre (BBMC) is the popular name for the National Park Visitor Centre managed by the Brecon Beacons National Park Authority. It is also known simply as the ‘Mountain Centre’, and also as the ‘Libanus Visitor Centre’.
The BBMC is situated near the village of Libanus some 5 miles (8 km) south-west of Brecon in the county of Powys, south Wales. This is the place to come for information regarding the mountains, the local towns and the countryside. They also organise activities such as guided walks.
Set within a delightful garden and with fantastic views of the two highest peaks in the Brecon Beacons, Pen y Fan and Corn Du, the BBMC consists of an Information Centre, a ‘pay and display’ car park, a shop and a cafe. A grassed area in front of the building is available for children to play games and for picnicking.
Inside the Information Centre is a marvellous three-dimensional relief map of the entire National Park and a geological display featuring the various rock types of the area. Short films about the National Park and the Geopark can also be viewed in the Centre.
