There is nothing like a good Agricultural Show for a terrific day out. For visitors to Britain these shows are the place to see locals competing against each other and showing off their animals and produce.

Held in the picturesque showground on the banks of the River Wye, The annual Monmouthshire Show is the largest one-day agricultural show in Wales.

When
Seeking the best weather possible, it is held on the first Saturday in July.

Show opening times:
First events at 08:00 in the Main Ring and Horse Ring.
The final main ring event is the Inter-Hunt Relay at 17:00.
Show closes 19:00.

What’s On
An outstanding Grand Parade of British livestock and horses is the highlight of a day packed with the thrills and spills of main ring entertainment, food and drink, and a wide range of farming and rural interests. Events include Sheep Shearing, Dog Obedience & Agility Trials, Motocycle Stunt Teams, Horse & Carriage Driving and Horse Show Jumping.

Spread across the 100 acre (40.47 ha) site there are hundreds of Trade Stands to browse, and catering outlets to sample.

The origin of the show dates back to the 1790s when Monmouth's agricultural society organised ploughing matches. In the 1850s it became a Cattle Show and has only failed to run during two World Wars and during outbreaks of the devastating Foot & Mouth Disease.
