The Bristol Museum and Art Gallery is the City’s major museum. It is housed in a majestic Edwardian Baroque building next to the Wills University Building. The Museum is a ‘designated museum’, in other words it is considered by the Government to be an outstanding museum.

The museum contains sections on natural history, archaeology, and a section on local industries, whilst the art gallery contains Old Masters, examples of the French School, British Collection, modern art and the Bristol School.

Once inside, the visitor will be astonished by the grandeur and spaciousness of this wonderful building.

Ground Floor
Discover Egyptian mummies, South West Wildlife, the Exhibition Gallery and much more.
First Floor
Say hello to Alfred the Gorilla, enjoy the Gypsy Caravan and learn all about dinosaurs, rocks and wildlife.
Second Floor
Explore the art galleries and admire the amazing craftsmanship displayed in ceramics, glassware and silverware, and Eastern objects d’art. The Art Gallery holds the city’s art collection! Visit the museum website for details of current exhibitions.

Getting There
- By Car
The museum is around two miles (3.2 km) from the M32.
- Parking
You can park in any of the city car parks but the closest two are West End and Trenchard Street, both about a five minute walk away. Council Car Parks Web:  Bristol car, coach and motorcycling parking
- By Bus
Bus numbers 1, 2, 8, 9, 16, 19, 40, and 41 all travel past the museum up Park Street and from the Clifton Triangle. For more information and timetables please visit the TravelWest website.
- By Rail
Temple Meads Railway Station is a 25 minute walk away.
Clifton Down train station is a 15 minute walk away.
Both are served by the 1, 8 and 9 bus services which would take you to the museum.
- On foot
The Museum and Art Gallery is located on Queens Road just off Park Street, only a five to ten minute walk from the city centre.
- By Cycle
There are several bicycle stands close to the museum for parking cycles.
