International Hot-Air
Balloon FiestaBristol
Long Ashton
Somerset BS41 9JN
Bristol’s annual International Hot-Air Balloon Fiesta attracts in excess of 400,000 enthusiasts to the four day event. The Fiesta is held from Thursday to Sunday in August and is said to be the largest annual ballooning event in Europe. Entry is absolutely free.
The Balloon Fiesta is normally held in early August each year. Visitors will be amazed by the spectacular sight of the dawn and dusk mass balloon ascents. Over 100 balloons of various shapes, sizes and colours are launched from Ashton Court Estate to glide gracefully through the summer skies.
One of the most enduring and popular attractions at the Balloon Fiesta is the dramatic ‘Night Glows’. This is an inspiring combination of illuminated, tethered balloons and fireworks, all set to a soundtrack of modern and classical music. See the Fiesta website link below for details.
As well as the Balloons, there are also a wide range of entertainment acts in the main arena to thrill and delight visitors. There is also a ‘Haven’ area especially designed for children to engage in interactive entertainment away from the adult main arena area.

Getting There
- By Official Fiesta Bus
For the International Visitor, the simplest way to get to and from the Balloon Fiesta site is to take the ‘Official Fiesta Bus Service’ running throughout Bristol City and collecting visitors at various pick-up and drop-off points.
One service commences at Bristol Temple Meads Railway Station. This is a frequent service. Refer the Bristol Balloon Fiesta web site (Link Above) for details.
- By Car
For health and safety reasons, the Clifton Suspension Bridge is closed to both vehicles and pedestrians for designated periods during the Fiesta.
Therefore it is most important that visitors not using the ‘Official Fiesta Bus Service’ make a special note of the quite detailed instructions for travel to the Ashton Court site and for parking once there. Advanced Car Parking tickets are available online at the Fiesta website.
Disabled Parking
Disabled Parking is available – refer the Fiesta website (Disabled Access) for details and online booking.
