We suggest that the Jane Austen Centre be incorporated in your Open-Top Bus Tour (see Getting Around) as there is a fair climb up the street to number 40.

On the way to Gay Street the bus passes the Bath Theatre Royal in Saw Close and the elegant Georgian houses in Queen Square.

In Gay Street the bus commentary announces the stop to alight at for the Jane Austen Centre. The bus continues on to The Circus and Royal Crescent.

If you are a Jane Austen fanatic, this is the museum to visit. The Centre aims to give an informative view of Bath during Jane Austen’s time. Here you will experience first hand the settings of her Bath novels, Northanger Abbey and Persuasion.

An astute observer of Georgian social life, Jane Austen lived at several addresses in Bath (Green Park) and during 1805, higher up Gay Street in number 25. She also lived at 4 Sydney Place opposite the current Holburne Museum.
