Bathampton is a small, pretty village to the east of the City of Bath. It is situated on the Avon River and the Kennet and Avon Canal.

Close to the Bathampton village centre is St Nicholas Church and also The George Inn. The church has an Australian historical First Fleet connection and The Australia Chapel.

A pleasant spot to watch the swans and canal boats slide past is on the banks of the Kennet and Avon Canal in the section between The George Inn and the stone bridge over the canal. Here are trimmed green lawns and shrubs. A great place to relax after maybe enjoying a beer or coffee at The George Inn.

Getting There
- By Car
Because of the infrequent bus service, the most practical way for the visitor to get to Bathampton is by self-drive car.

Follow the A4 east from Bath to its junction with the A46. Cross straight over onto the Batheaston Road and about a half mile (800 metres) on your left is the turnoff to the Batheaston - Bathampton Toll Bridge road. Take care - it is very narrow.

After about 80 yards (73 metres) you approach the single lane private Toll Bridge – cost is 50 pence each way, paid in cash to the toll collectors. It is quite a busy road so care is required. The Batheaston side of the bridge has right of way.

Soon after passing the old mill, the road (Mill Street) crosses over the A4 highway (Batheaston By-pass) and over the main railway line. Then it is on to Bathampton, approximately ½ a mile (0.8km) from the toll bridge, passing Bathampton Manor on the way.

- By Bus
First Bus Group provides public bus service number 4 from Bath bus station to Bathampton. This service is limited, being at 40 minute intervals Mondays to Saturdays only. There are no Sunday or Bank holiday services.

The Bathampton terminus is at the Holcombe Vale loop. The terminus is some 400 yards (365 metres) from St Nicholas Church and also The George Inn, however the Loop runs along Bathampton High Street.
