Spekes Mill Mouth WaterfallBarnstaple
North Devon EX39 6DU
The waterfall at Spekes Mill is the result of two streams that rise on the high ground of Bursdon Moor near Lymebridge. They wind their way through the secluded Spekes Valley and then cascade 60 feet (18 metres) down a sheer rock face and four smaller falls before reaching the shore below.
The waterfall can be reached by a 20 minute walk along the coastal path from Hartland Quay or by footpaths from Stoke, Milford and the Spekes Valley. These footpaths are clearly shown on Ordnance Survey Explorer Map No. 139.
A flight of steep steps off the path lead down to Speekes Mill Mouth Beach. A quiet rocky beach with sandy strips revealed at mid-low tide. There are fine views of the waterfall tumbling 200 feet (61 metres) down the cliff.
- Walking from Hartland Quay
Walk down to the harbour to find the coastal path heading south. A twenty minute or so walk will bring you to Spekes Mill Mouth Waterfall. There are no facilities on the short walk except at Hartland Quay where there are toilets, and refreshments at Hartland Quay Hotel.
- Circular Walk
The Spekes Valley walk is an excellent circular walk of approximately 4 miles (6.5 km) which takes in the waterfall, and  is described at Web:   Spekes Valley Walks    External Link
This website also gives useful information on where to park and refreshment spots along the way.
Take the coastal path to the waterfall. Then turn inland up the Spekes Valley to Milford then north over the hills to Stoke, taking the footpath back to the Rocket House at Hartland Quay. Some of the going is very steep.
Refreshments are available at Docton Mill Tearooms at Milford and Stoke Barton Farm Tearooms at Stoke and at Hartland Quay Hotel.
