Aquascutum’s flagship store is located in Regent Street, the fashion heart of London. This luxury British clothing shop has been established for over 150 years.

The company name comes from its founder John Emary‘s discovery of a process for waterproofing wool. This discovery led to the development of the famous Aquascutum rain proof coat. Emary then named the company ‘Aquascutum’, the Latin for ‘Watershield’.

This waterproof fabric was put to good use during the Crimean War (1853-1856) being made into Officers coats. All ranks had their trench coats made of Aquascutum water resistant wool cloth during two world wars.

British Royalty then joined the picture and in 1897 the company was granted a Royal Warrant marking a long Royal Patronage.

From small beginnings, the company now is a fashion leader with departments in many upmarket London stores including Harrods, House of Fraser, Harvey Nichols and Selfridges.
